May God Uphold Thee

(For My Liberation Poems)
Oh Uganda! may God uphold thee,
We lay our future in thy hand!
What if there was a mistake?
What if all this was a lie?
A lie our fore fathers sung to us.

United, free, for liberty,
What if there was a hole in the hole they call Parliament?
What if there is a Mole in the group we call legislators?
What if the Judiciary is now just a name?
What if they rule us all by the Iron Fist.

Together we'll always stand.
The Panthers preached,
Day after day, after day.
Our brothers bleed and disappear
From Potholed streets.

Mothers wail,
Brothers mourn,
Fathers fall,
Children weep,
For the disappeared and the 'system' doesn't care.

Oh Uganda! The land of freedom.
Where we are not allowed to ask for the disappeared in public.
Where we are charged for treason
Because we walk for our rights,
And this doesn't bother the 'system'.

Our love and Labor we give.
Paying taxes for the debt we don't benefit,
For Stolen Iron sheets,
For Potholed roads,
For the 'system's' sickness leaves.

Oh dear Uganda,
May God Uphold Thee,
For we celebrate a painful individual day.
